Perhaps the Evening Times staff who looked into jaywalking (Evening Times, October 17) could set up shop in the appropriately-named Counting House in George Square on a Friday afternoon.

Once ensconced, they would witness vehicles speeding up to beat the red light; vehicles stopped on, and blocking, pedestrian crossings; vehicles moving over crossings when the green man is flashing.

And, ultimately, drivers who display a total disregard for anyone not in a vehicle (a bit like those who carry an umbrella - but that's another story).

Don't focus on pedestrians trying to avoid a five-minute wait at the kerb.

Focus on the lack of police presence and control at junctions where ample laws already exist. EDWARD BURNS Glasgow Govanhill work hailed

Recent articles have rightly highlighted issues in Govanhill which urgently require Government action.

But I'd like to congratulate Govanhill Housing Association for the work that has been carried out to the surroundings of Govanhill Park and also to the entrances of tenements.

Too often the good work that is going on in areas goes unnoticed and all that is highlighted is the bad. So well done to all involved, it looks a treat. IAN STEWART Govanhill resident MP holiday disgrace

So Westminster MPs are to get 24 days holiday over the festive season.

This is almost as many holidays as some hard working families get over a year - you really could not make it up.

The country is up to its neck in debt, mostly due to these people and here they are swanning off for a ridiculously long holiday. They just don't get it, do they? TM Glasgow Listed garage row

THE article in the Evening Times featuring campaigners who vow to save a listed garage by any means (Evening Times, October 15) caught my attention and motivated me into action, hence this letter.

I have a solution to this stalemate. Why not rename it The Arnold Clark Museum of Scottish Motoring. Create a Jim Clark Room and a Jackie Stewart Room and pack them with vintage cars.

This would become a lasting monument to the man who must surely be the greatest car salesman in Scotland - if not the UK.

The result? The campaigners need worry no more and Arnold Clark proves to the world that he puts the city of Glasgow that helped make him a millionaire first and foremost. PHIL McCUSKER Glasgow M8 sculpture praise

Andy Scott is a great artist and as someone who travels on the M8 five days a week, his new sculpture (Evening Times, October 20) is to be welcomed. HOT TOPIC: New £125m hotel will boost jobs in city

I'm fairly sure that Jumeirah will have done its sums before committing to invest £125million in this new hotel in Glasgow, and that the company sees the investment is worthwhile.

I don't really see the downside of a company choosing to invest so much in Glasgow.

It's not diverting any money from public expenditure, and from day one will be creating a lot of jobs.

Maybe my opinion is flawed. After all, I've got no problem with tourists coming to Glasgow either. PETE, Glasgow No resemblance

THE Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai bears no resemblance to anything Glasgow will get.

For starters the cost of this hotel was such that it was not built to make a profit - that would be impossible.

Its main purpose is to show the world what a wonderful place Dubai is ... a tourist flagship.

Glasgow's hotel will be required to make a profit and therefore there is no similarity. THE THINKING ALTERNATIVE, City Centre For wealthy only

I WAS driving past some of the hotels in Argyle Street and wondered how many Glaswegians will actually ever see the insides of these places. JOHNNY, Glasgow Wendy's a top choice

A FEW years ago I stayed in the Radisson in Glasgow and we had a few problems.

They were sorted out thanks to Wendy's superb customer service skills and genuine concern for our requirements.

I would say if she's ever offered a role in the Burj Al Broomielaw, she's an excellent choice! SIRC, Glasgow Sporting chance

NO doubt this hotel will be busy when there are big sports events on, but other than that I predict it being a quiet place. EASTENDDUDE, Glasgow Changing times

GLASGOW is changing, whether we like it or not. ROOR06, Glasgow Lap of luxury

IF the sort of service and luxury accommodation described by Wendy Brown is what the new hotel serves up in Glasgow, it will certainly be worth visiting. LKM, Glasgow
