Scotland's culture has been greatly depleted by the demise of Fopp. I was all set to replace a much-worn disc of Neil Young's Ragged Glory when I found the shutters down at Fopp. The aural shock was worsened by the fact that I had two Fopp vouchers burning a hole in my wallet. This disaster has not only struck those of us who are old enough to receive such tokens for Father's day. I discovered that it crosses generations and my sons, friends and colleagues have all been left with unspent vouchers.

Beyond the financial effects, we must despair at the vast numbers of unheard albums languishing in darkened stores, waiting to be united with dog-eared Fopp vouchers.
