A DYSLEXIC teenager has gone to court to challenge Scotland's largest

local authority over its decision to refuse him a bursary for his

college course.

Grant Linton Bremner, 19, of Edzell Drive, Newton Mearns, Glasgow, is

studying for a diploma in musical theatre at Guildford School of Acting

in England.

In August last year a sub-committee of Strathclyde Regional Council

refused his appeal over an application for a full-time further education

bursary.

He has now gone to the Court of Session in Edinburgh for a judicial

review before Lord Cullen of the region's decision.

His family has helped him in his first year of the three-year course,

but he has now applied again to Strathclyde for support for 1993-94.

Strathclyde has said that no bursary support can be given for further

education courses at institutions that are not local authority-managed,

with the exception of certain dance, theology, and agricultural courses.

Mr Bremner wants the court to set aside the decision by the regional

council.

Strathclyde is contesting the action, and is seeking to have it

dismissed.
