Sarah Daobry-Jay is stepping back in the ring – and is confident of celebrating another victory.

The Thorpe boxer is preparing for a 61kg fight against Michaela Taylor, at the Showground Showdown event in Ipswich.

The pair will meet at the Suffolk Showground, in Trinity Park, on Saturday.

And despite being only her second fight – and up against a slightly more experienced opponent – Daobry-Jay is confident of adding to her success at a charity event in Chelmsford last March.

“I feel confident,” said the 41-year-old personal trainer, who lives in Landermere Road.

“I’ve been training hard – fitness-wise and boxing a number of times a week. I’ve followed a strict diet, as I’ve had to lose 6lb.

“And even though my opponent has more experience, I still feel capable of beating her.

“She’s been boxing for a couple of years, whereas I did it for ten weeks last year and again for the last ten weeks.

“Nevertheless, I still feel completely prepared and ready.

“It’s been great having this fight on the horizon and I like having goals and targets, to work towards.”

Daobry-Jay trains at Fight Fit Systems, in Valley Road, Clacton – a gym that only opened last year and also run children’s boxing classes, as well as ladies’ box-fit classes.

“There are significantly less female boxers but it’s something I really enjoy,” she said.

“I’ve always liked physical sport.

“I used to play rugby and love the force and power, as opposed to things like tennis, which is more about hand-eye co-ordination.

“I like the fact it’s about determination, gritting your teeth to get the right result.”

Trainer Steve Anderson says his fighter is well-prepared for the contest.

“Sarah was introduced to Fight Fit Systems via her daughter, in our junior club, where Sarah now helps out,” he said.

“She’s trained hard for the fight, which I know she’s looking forward to.”

Show promoter Matt Brennan is expecting an exciting fight between Daobry-Jay and “feisty opponent” Taylor, who will be representing host club Suffolk Punch.

“We try to match all of our bouts 50-50,” he said.

“What we aim for is both opponents to display their boxing skills in the best way possible.

“Michaela is a feisty opponent for Sarah, who hasn’t been boxing long, but she had a very good win last time out against a top-quality fighter.”
