Colchester darts player Jamie Robinson begins his Coral UK Open challenge today.

The professional takes on Chris Packer in the preliminary round at the televised event, which is being staged at the Butlins Minehead Resort.

If Robinson wins, he will take on Jason Mold in the first round of the £300,000 tournament.

The competition features stars from the PDC circuit alongside amateur qualifiers, in an event which sees play being held on eight stages simultaneously in the early rounds.

Professional players took part in six UK Open qualifiers, each worth £50,000 in prize money, across two weekends last month, in a bid to make the tournament.

The leading 96 players, plus ties, made it through to the finals along with 32 Rileys amateur qualifiers.

The third-round draw will be made on stage in Minehead tonight, at the conclusion of the second round.

The second-round winners will be joined by the leading 32 players from the UK Open Order of Merit, in competing in the last 64.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final take place on Sunday.
