WALTON Indoor Bowls Club enjoyed two more victories last weekend.

However, their ladies’ team suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Essex County.

A mixed fours team had to head to West Mersea two hours early on Saturday, because of very high spring tides.

But the wait proved worthwhile as Walton came out on top on all three rinks to romp home 67-36.

The biggest winners of the day were the quartet of Linda Boxall, John Rayner, Keith Twinn and Bill Harding, who triumphed 27-8.

Results (Walton first): H Marshall, A Rawling, F Gibson, R Norton 22-16; R Wood, B Webb, E Marshall, J Perry 18-12; L Boxall, J Rayner, K Twinn, B Harding 27-8.

The Suffolk Vice-Presidents’ Association visited the Columbine Centre on Sunday, for a match that proved much closer.

Walton won on three of the four rinks to pull off victory by 74 shots to 55.

Two were very tight but the four of Pat Boldock, Mike Cuddihey, Anne Guild and Jim Perry swung it the home team’s way with a 21-9 victory.

Results (Walton first): P Boldock, M Cuddihey, A Guild, J Perry 21-9; C Chinn, L Goodchild, A Rawling, B Harding 18-22; K Oldhampstead, J Wilson, B Flaxman, G Hadley 21-15; H Marshall, S Wilson, F Gibson, E Marshall 14-11.

The ladies, entertaining Essex County, managed to win on only one rink against more experienced opponents and were beaten 86-70.

However, they deserve credit for putting up a fight.

Results (Walton first): O Lane, M Smith, G Gale, B Flaxman 18-30; L Todd, L Goodchild, P Boldock, L Bradley 16-23; K Oldhampstead, F Brown, S Steggles, E Patton 19-14; H Marshall, R Wood, S Wilson, A Guild 17-19.
