BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent boss James Webster believes his club have struck gold by bringing prolific teenager Jake Gordon to North Road.

The 18-year-old celebrated his full debut by netting in Tuesday’s 3-0 victory at Cray Wanderers.

It was a success that left Regent eighth in Ryman League division one north – six points adrift of the play-offs and in confident mood ahead of this weekend’s match at home to fellow high-fliers Brentwood.

Afterwards Webster praised Chelmsford City loanee Gordon, comparing his playing style to former Premier League and England hero Michael Owen.

“Jake scored our third goal and played very well,” he said.

“He’s got a prolific track record, having scored something like 60 goals for Chelmsford’s academy.

“And I can see why, because he’s quick and direct, covers a lot of ground and gets past players. His style reminds me of Michael Owen.

“He deserved to be given a start, after impressing as a substitute in the previous couple of games, and was in with a shout of being man-of-the-match.”
