COLCHESTER United boss Tony Humes was delighted to welcome back Alex Gilbey and George Moncur during Tuesday's defeat against MK Dons.

Both have faced spells on the sidelines due to an ankle injury and tonsilitis respectively.

However, the pair were both introduced as second-half substitutes, during the League One contest at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

“Alex came on and looked very good,” said Humes.

“We’ve missed his composure on the ball, his range of passing and the way he wants to dictate games.

“George is another who wants to get on the ball and keep possession.

“It’s lovely to have them back.

“Obviously they’re a bit short of match practise and fitness but there’s an opportunity for them to be thrust into it on Saturday.”

Gilbey was a half-time replacement for David Fox, who had to be withdrawn due to a “groin-cum-hip” injury.

Humes said the midfielder was taken off as a precaution and would have to see how the problem settled down before knowing the severity.
