COLCHESTER United have set the bar – now they must deliver on a regular basis.

That’s the view of boss Tony Humes, following Saturday’s stunning 1-0 win at Oldham.

Sammie Szmodics’ second-minute goal set them on the road to victory and, thanks to a gritty all-round display, they have moved to within a point of League One safety.

Now Humes is demanding more of the same from his players – starting tomorrow night, at home to MK Dons.

“We’ve shown we can do it and that’s the consistency we’re looking for week in, week out,” said the delighted U’s boss.

“The three points are massive but it’s the performance that will give us most confidence.

“The players dug in and proved they can get something out of a game.

“Now we’ve got to do it in every match. Not one week but not the next.

“The players have got to rally together and keep showing the same commitment.

“If they do, they’ll get their rewards but we’ve got to do this consistently and once every two or three weeks isn’t enough.”
