Aleasha Kiddle was back with driver Mica McNeill and in the top ten placings at the seventh round of the FIBT Bobsleigh World Cup at Igls in Austria.

Former Braintree and District Athletic Club star Kiddle had been the brakewoman behind Victoria Olaoye in a couple of two-woman bobsleigh top-ten finishes in the opening couple of rounds before Christmas, but had not managed to repeat that since heading over to European venues.

She has raced as brakewoman with both Olaoye and McNeill in 2015 and managed to secure a return to the top ten as she linked up with McNeill once again at Igls, despite a scary moment at the end of their first run.

The 1.2 kilometre Austrian track was the Winter Olympic venue at the Games in 1964 and 1976 and sleds in the two-woman event reach speeds topping 75 mph (120 kph).

The Great Britain pairing of Kiddle and McNeill had a couple of knocks of the sidewall in their first run, but it was quick enough to place them in the top-ten, however, their bobsleigh’s brakes failed to engage fully at the end and they went shooting off the end of the track.

Fortunately they were halted by a steep section of hill and neither the crew nor the bobsleigh suffered any lasting damage to allow them to compete the following day in heat two.

They once again had a couple of taps and a brief skid in the mid-section of the run, but it was another quick one that saw them edge the fellow British team of Olaoye and Nikki McSweeney out of the top ten by 0.04 seconds.

Kiddle and McNeill finished in tenth spot overall, 2.44s behind the winners, America’s Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauryn Williams.

The next round of the FIBT Bobsleigh World Cup now moves to the 2014 Olympic venue of Sochi in Russia this weekend.
