Colchester United will resume talks with Kaspars Gorkss today, with the defender on the brink of leaving the club.

The Latvia international looks likely to have played his last game for the U’s, after his short-term deal came to an end following their 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Cardiff City on Friday night.

Gorkss, 33, who has played six times for Colchester since joining them on a short-term deal last month, has informed Tony Humes that he still wants to play at a higher level.

And that is likely to prompt the U’s boss to go in search of a new centre-back in this month’s transfer window, with Magnus Okuonghae and Frankie Kent both still sidelined.

Humes said: “I think Kaspars is looking for an opportunity to play as high as he possibly can.

“We’ll renew talks on Monday and see what happens."
