Colchester Golf Club duo David Latta and Mike Sutton suffered an early exit at the Daily Mail Foursomes national finals, in Scotland.
They lost their first match on the 19th hole against a pair from Charnwood Forest GC, to bow out at the last-16 stage at Marriott Dalmahoy Golf Club, near Edinburgh.
The Colchester pair found themselves two down with three holes to play, against their Leicestershire-based opponents.
They received a shot to win the 16th and then birdied the 18th, to take the match to an extra hole.
But on the long uphill five, they were unable to get up and down and lost out.
Latta said: “We had an unbelievable four days there - the sponsors were so generous and the hospitality we received was fantastic.
“It was a very long course which was around 7,000 yards long, which didn’t really suit our game."
