Colchester and Tendring Athletic Club scooped their first team trophy for several years at the East Anglian League Finals, in Bury St Edmunds.

The club’s under-15 boys team were winners by four points at the event, where the club was represented in three different age groups.

CATs chairman Warren Page said: “I’m very proud of them – they did very well and it’s a sign of our progression as a club.

“Last year we had one team in the final but this time we had three there, for the first time in many years.

“The kids are starting to mature and are starting to perform well, thanks to the coaching.

“It was a great finish to the track and field season for the boys and the club and team manager Mandy Hicks was extremely happy with the result.

“The hard work of the athletes and dedication of the team manager throughout the season has paid dividends.”

CATs’ under-15 squad produced numerous personal best performances at the times when it really mattered.

The pressure was still on in the final relay, where a slip or a dropped baton would have meant disaster and a runners-up finish.

But their relay team of Mufaro Shava, Harvey Durling, Jacob Wilson and Owen Fookes ran a faultless race to finish four, enough to secure them the necessary points needed for overall victory.

Harvey Durling won his 100 metres race in 12.2 seconds and was second in the 200m (24.6s).

Mufaro Shava was in the 200m in 25.5s as was Max Williams in the 800m (two minutes 13.0s). In the 1,500m, Ben Miller was second in 4m 34.2s and Owen Foakes finished second in the 80m hurdles.

Harrison Beardsell vaulted a huge 1.70m PB in the high jump where he finished second and Williams won the high jump in a PB of 1.50m.

Beardsell also won the javelin with a throw of 43.00m.

Jacob Wilson won the triple jump in a new PB of 10.13m, with Ollie Eves registering a PB of 9m.

In the shot putt, Adam Vigar threw a PB of 8.13m, Freddie Richardson performed well to earn team points and Arun Kittle finished third, in the 300m.

In the under-13 boys, Bradley Hicks threw a PB of 5.96m in the Shot Putt, while Luke Bracey won both the 100m (13.5s) and 200m (27.3s).

CATs’ under-13s finished in eighth place overall.

Emmanuel Ogunleye was second in the under-17 men’s 100m in 11.5s and won the 200m in 22.9s.

The 1,500m saw Joe Patterson finish second in 4m 24.3s and Ramadan Osman won his B string race in 4m 28.1s.

Daniel Cole was second in the javelin with 43.74m, while Robert Green won the B string after throwing 35.26m.

Callum McCain threw a new PB in the hammer (12.87m) and Mo Adepoju ran a gutsy 400m in 57.2s, as CATs under-17s finished fifth in the final standings.
