Colchester Golf Club’s Alan Macnaught has enjoyed a double success after winning both the John Thorogood Scratch Trophy and the Seniors Scratch event.

Both Lorrie Austin and Steve Wynne carded 73 to take joint second spot, in the Scratch Trophy.

And Nigel Hilliard was runner-up in the Seniors Scratch, with a gross 74.

Macnaught finished three shots clear of the pursuing group, after recording a gross score of a par-equalling 70.

He had a slight wobble on the par-five second hole, where he had a six.

But he immediately countered that by recording birdies on the next two holes, before another on the seventh.

They were quickly followed by successive birdies on the eighth and ninth, to turn in two under par.

Bogeys on the tenth, 12th and 13th seemed to have put paid to an otherwise perfect round.

However, a birdie on the 17th followed by a par at the last brought Macnaught home with a winning level-par round.
