Drey Wright’s planned injury comeback was scuppered after Colchester United’s under-21 clash with Crystal Palace was postponed.

The U’s were hoping to use the Professional Development League Two game as a chance for Wright to get some competitive match action following his recent knee injury.

Colchester were also hoping that the likes of Josh Thompson and Dan Holman would feature in the Eagles clash.

But the academy fixture, which was due to take place at Tooting and Mitcham FC, was called off because of travel disruption on the M25.

The road delays initially led to the kick-off time being delayed but it was eventually postponed.

U’s development coach Richard Hall said: “We were all ready for a game so it’s frustrating that we couldn’t make it to Palace.

“Drey Wright and Josh Thompson have been injured so needed a game.

“And players like Dan Holman, Frankie Kent and Sammie Szmodics were also due a run out.”
