Dunne - U's are not getting the breaks

Colchester United manager Joe Dunne felt one goal was always going to decide his side's tight contest against Doncaster Rovers, following the U's 1-0 defeat.

Kyle Bennett's strike just after the hour mark proved the difference between the two teams, in a game of few chances at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The defeat was Colchester's third in a row in League One and leaves them with one point from a possible 12 at the start of the season.

Dunne said: “They took that opportunity first – you need the breaks to go for you and at the moment, everything is going against us.

“The manner of the goal that we conceded was disappointing.

“Both managers will probably tell you that it was an astute game and for the purists, it probably wasn’t that great to watch.

“But tactically and from a manager’s point of view, it was very tight.

“One goal was always going to be the difference and unfortunately, it’s gone against us.

“We thought the ball was kicked out of Sam Walker’s hands but a couple of our players turned our back on the ball.

“Chances were at a premium for both teams but the goal knocked us back a bit and in effect, it killed the game.

“A defeat whitewashes the thought process.

“If you watch the game again, we’ve had some good performances again.

“But when you lose there’s one train of thought and if it’s negative, it will always be that way and you’ll never see the good things."
