Colchester United suffered their third successive league defeat after being beaten 1-0 at home by Doncaster Rovers this afternoon.

Freddie Sears went close for Colchester in the opening minutes when he headed George Moncur’s wide at the near post and Dominic Vose curled wide from the edge of the area, soon after.

But the best chance of the first half came on the half-hour mark and it fell to the visitors.

Former Southend United striker Theo Robinson headed over from James Coppinger’s cross from close range, when he should have at least hit the target.

Colchester keeper Sam Walker denied Dean Furman on the hour, before the deadlock was broken five minutes later.

Kyle Bennett swept a low left-foot shot from just inside the area after Walker had denied Furman from close range and Colchester had failed to clear their lines.

Furman should have made it 2-0 when he fluffed his lines from three yards after James Coppinger had picked him out but despite making a triple substitution, Colchester hardly threatened an equaliser after that and fell to their first home defeat of the season.
