Colchester United manager Joe Dunne insists he does not feel under pressure to make any further new signings before the new season starts.

The U’s boss bolstered his squad with a trio of new signings last week, bringing in full-backs Sean Clohessy and Ben Gordon along with goalkeeper Chris Lewington.

In addition, David Wright and Josh Thompson both penned new one-year deals at the club.

Some Colchester supporters are keen to see a new forward at the Weston Homes Community Stadium before the new League One season starts, following Clinton Morrison's departure at the end of the last campaign.

But Dunne says he is content with his squad, though at least one loan signing is possible before the big kick-off on August 9.

Dunne said: “I’m happy with the squad and I’m happy with the players that we’ve got."

2 keepers
3 full backs
4 centre backs
5 centre mids
4 wingers
3 strikers.
I would say that is enough players with out loans and youth intakes to survive and push for mid table next season. I know there is a lot of talk of strikers, but I believe Sears and Ibehre can get 25-30 goals between them and Bonne, Szmodics, Watt, Eastmond, Wright, Massey and co can squeeze another 30 between them easily.

Normally I agree with most things you say Super, but ive marked your comment down...based on your rather optimistic goal tally hopes! Freddy will never be a 20+ goal striker. Dunnes failure to play him as the leading man will make sure of that. If he has an injury free season, best we can hope for is 15. Ibhere is another year older, and again 10 is a realistic ask.

I believe the others you mention will be lucky for a 10-15 goal haul between them, making our tally in total for the season to 40 at a push.

Obviously this is less than one a game, and nowhere near enough to grace 20th place, based on our inability to keep clean sheets.

One more striker, and another winger needed....another full back wouldn't go a miss either, but David Wright could always help out in that department.

I think our tally of goals in the league last season was 53, averaging 1.15 goals per game. Jabo's fitness over the full course of the season is a concern and our dependence on him is immense. We need him for cup games too as a good cup run could help boost our playing budget. There are bound to be some injuries, although hopefully not on the same scale as last season. To have a reasonable season, including putting together a decent cup run for a change, we need to be averaging around 1.5 goals a game (69 goals over 46 league games) in my opinion. Can we achieve that with what we've got - doubtful!

Both above comments are very fair. It is not in my nature to predict the future in football because it is often unpredictable. My goal tally of 60+ is loosely based on the players we have and what may be available to us. I believe Sears and Ibehre will better there goal tallys of 12 each if they stay fit, and may even better 15 goals each. I also have faith in Vose, Watt and Massey to improve this season.

I think if Watt can stay fit then we have a much more potent attack.

As League Two Portsmouth have signed number one target Wynter its just as well.
Perhaps a target man up front can now be a priority.

I agree with all the comments, sadly we are all "hoping" that we get a score tally rather than guaranteed. In these leagues a guaranteed top scorer (1 in 2) is essential. I personally like the look of Bonne and Szmodics and have faith they can come through. Hopefully with a bit of pressure on the likes of Sears and Ibehre it will create competition. Anyway here is hoping and as always never going to be an easy ride watching the U's which is why we love them!
