Joe Dunne expects competition for places to hot up at Colchester United after making a triple swoop.

The U’s have signed former Southend United right-back Sean Clohessy, following his departure from Kilmarnock.

They have also brought in left-back Ben Gordon, who played his football at Ross County last season and is a former Chelsea youngster.

In addition, goalkeeper Chris Lewington has joined the U’s after he left League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge in May.

All three players have signed two-year deals with Colchester.

Dunne said: “I’m delighted with all three signings and it gives me the competition early on, rather than further down the line.

“I’m happy with the squad and I’m happy with the players that we’ve got."
