U's boss Dunne is focused on the future

Essex County Standard: Closing in - Joe Dunne is hopeful of adding new players to his squad in the coming days, as the new League One season approaches. Closing in - Joe Dunne is hopeful of adding new players to his squad in the coming days, as the new League One season approaches.

Joe Dunne says he is not dwelling on player departures from Colchester United - because he knows that quality replacements are imminent.

The U’s are yet to add to their squad but boss Dunne says he hopes to have positive transfer news in the next few days for U’s fans.

Dunne said: “My focus is on what I’ve got and what I’m trying to bring in - not on the players who have gone.

“What I have got is a good group of players who will be working with me and we’ve got good options.

“If everything goes well, we could have some news very soon (about new signings)."

Snap, another season destined for toil, just like last year so slow to react all the good stuff has gone!

Can't believe Dunne is still trying to hang on to Josh Thompson. I can see him getting a regular start the season possibly with Tom Eastman as our new right back.

When you see other teams around us pushing on and recruiting players you can see why the Bookies have us as favourites to go down again this season. Yes I know that's being negative again but what makes you believe anything is going to change this season with the same management team at the helm.

The only news we have coming out of WHCS is how wonderful the staging is progressing ready for the Elton John Concert the weekend. The only news I want to see from Col Utd is the players we are about to sign.

I would rather wait and get the right player, rather than rush in and buy the first available.

Tired of seeing this kind of story on the Gazette. Dunne said players will come in.... Then players will come in. Stop all your negativity... Take a look on http://www.thepfa.co

and im sure you'll agree "all the good stuff" (whatever that means) hasn't gone

Unfortunately, Dunne's 2 or 3 days turn into several weeks. He said that specifically about Wynter and we still haven't heard any more about him 7 weeks later. It's so easy to lose your credibility JD.

I'd take Ibou Touray as a new LB.

I am sure that Dunne and Cowling will now be sleeping soundly at night in the knowledge that the deluded on here still believe in them? Don't worry about having a pop back at me, save it until the end of the season, lets talk about it then! How many weeks until the start of the season, any new players should be training with us now?

Players will hold out for as long as they can to get what they want. The problem is although we may get the players we target by taking our time, we end up with a disillusioned player who is not going to give of his all. I think we have already had one or two of those over the last couple of years. Money is only a short term motivator but unfortunately, lack of what is perceived to be the right wage for the job is the biggest de-motivator you can get.

The above is probably a very similar quote to last pre season. All i can say is we shall see.

I agree with your comments Baz, Dunne is seemingly trying to address this as a previous article on this site suggested the recruitment scheme is looking more and more into the players psyche. Good management is needed to determine what motivates different individuals.

I say let's just see where we are in a few weeks time.
Let's be honest - we're not going to be the first club on many players lists. There's no good kidding ourselves. But if JD can get some young, hungry players who want to create a name for themselves I'd be more than happy with that. There's no point in fretting now. There will be a lot of players who are unemployed come Monday so let's see what happens then.
None of those who have left are irreplaceable, not by a long way

Already thinking of selling my season card, not because I think it will be another poor season, but because my job is taking my to Australia. Who would like it for £300? Really can't be bothered to go to the club & tell them I want a refund.

Let me have a think about this 300 mile round journey, ticket, programme, food. Goodbye £100 each home game to see what !!!! maybe the its time for me to watch a decent local park game because it will be just as entertaining without the loss of a whole day travelling to watch players of a similar standard. Buy some decent players now before the likes of Orient steal all the talent thats left and JD / RC might be surprised by an increase in the gates.
