U's have plenty of choice in hunt for new goalkeeper
Joe Dunne says he has already been inundated with requests from goalkeepers wanting to sign for Colchester United.
But the U’s boss insists he is willing to bide his time in his quest to sign a back-up keeper, following long-serving Mark Cousins’ exit on Monday.
Colchester are on the hunt for a new shot-stopper to act as back up to first-choice custodian Sam Walker.
Walker is now the U’s only senior goalkeeper, following Cousins’ decision to join Dagenham and Redbridge on a two-year deal.
Dunne said: “We’re in the process of trying to bring one in.
“When it went public about Mark leaving for Dagenham, we were inundated with requests.
“We certainly have plenty of choice but I’m patient with the situation and I’m open-minded about it.
“When we were in this situation before we managed it well and Sam Walker was a product of our patience.
“One of the things about Sam coming in was that it was through the loan system and we have options.
“I know what we’re looking for in a goalkeeper and it’s a key specialist position.”
