Rapid return - Brian Wilson, who left Colchester United last month, will make an immediate return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium with new club Oldham Athletic on the opening day of the new League One season, after the fixtures were released.

Former Colchester United skipper Brian Wilson will make an immediate return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium after the League One fixture list was released for the 2014-15 season.

Wilson, who ended his four-year spell with the club last month, will return to his former team with new side Oldham Athletic when the new campaign gets under way on Saturday, August 9.

The U’s game with the Latics is the first time that they have been at home on the opening day since 2002.

Joe Dunne’s side then face three successive away games, with trips to Bristol City and Notts County following hot on the heels of their Capital One Cup tie at Charlton Athletic.

The U’s round off August with back-to-back home matches against relegated Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.

Colchester host Gillingham on Boxing Day and travel to play Crawley Town, two days later.

They complete their season with a home game against Preston North End, on May 2.

RIGHT:That means if they return to training next Monday-they have 7 weeks to prepare for 5 August league games and 1/2 cup games.
The 50 point target before the end of January and league and cup success.

I agree down the line, August looks to represent quite a tough start. Dunne needs to get his signings done at the start of pre-season not at the end.

I see our home games clash with Ipswich yet again. It never used to happen in the old Layer Road days and it can't be that difficult to keep them apart. I don't think they even bother to look at these things anymore.

Whenever we used to clash with Ipswich we would move our game to a Friday night. Used to love them Friday night games under the lights at Layer Road.

To be honest if we have four points at the end of August it would be a start. As for signings Freddy Eastwood is on a free yes I know he was a Southend player but we need someone. Think it may be loan city again.
