Former Colchester United skipper Brian Wilson will make an immediate return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium after the League One fixture list was released for the 2014-15 season.
Wilson, who ended his four-year spell with the club last month, will return to his former team with new side Oldham Athletic when the new campaign gets under way on Saturday, August 9.
The U’s game with the Latics is the first time that they have been at home on the opening day since 2002.
Joe Dunne’s side then face three successive away games, with trips to Bristol City and Notts County following hot on the heels of their Capital One Cup tie at Charlton Athletic.
The U’s round off August with back-to-back home matches against relegated Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.
Colchester host Gillingham on Boxing Day and travel to play Crawley Town, two days later.
They complete their season with a home game against Preston North End, on May 2.
