When most people think of the Republic of Ireland and the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, the public spat between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy commonly springs to mind.
Keane’s much-publicised outburst towards his manager at the squad’s Saipan training base resulted in the captain returning home and the team’s preparations being left in disarray.
But often in sport when one door closes, another opens – and opportunity came knocking in that tournament for Mark Kinsella.
