Perfect week for Stodel
3:17pm Thursday 12th June 2014 in Sport
HANNAH Stodel had a perfect week at the Sail for Gold regatta.
The West Mersea Paralympian sailor, along with John Robertson and Steve Thomas, dominated the sonar class at the event in Weymouth and Portland, to claim their fourth Sail for Gold title in a row.
The trio claimed nothing but race wins in the regatta, which was the third leg of the 2014 EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup series. Stodel said: “It has been a fantastic week of racing and obviously it’s nice to come away with the chocolates.
“It’s fantastic for us as a team to win our fourth straight consecutive Sail for Gold title here in Weymouth and Portland. This week has thrown up every condition you could have asked for which has been great as we are testing some new equipment, so all in all it has been a fantastic week.
“Credit must go to the Race Management teams on our course – they have been fantastic all week – we had had some spectacular racing with no faffing around in-between which we love and to get four races a day is impressive, especially in a Paralympic fleet with all the added drama that brings – so we have been really impressed with the level of racing here at WPNSA.”
Stodel is hoping that the progress they are making this year, a silver medal at the Delta Lloyd Regatta, World Cup series silver medal from Miami and a gold in Hyeres, will put them well on the road to the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
She said: “We have been pleased with our racing across the five days. It’s nice to go home having never lost a race and I think we have proved to the rest of the British teams and that we are the ones to watch and hopefully that will put us in good stead for the Worlds this year and further on towards Rio 2016.”
