David Wright says he plans to hold fresh talks with Joe Dunne this week about the contract offered to him by Colchester United.

The experienced midfielder is yet to agree new terms offered to him by the U’s.

Wright, 34, is currently mulling over a new one-year deal put on the table by Colchester, at the beginning of last month.

The former Ipswich Town player has been on a Uefa A Licence coaching course at St George’s Park.

Wright said: “I had a quick word with the manager (Joe Dunne) about the new contract at the end of last season.

“We both agreed that I would come on this course and have a think about it.

“I hope that in the next couple of days, I’ll be able to speak to the manager and hopefully the chairman about it.

“I think the manager and the chairman are building something exciting at Colchester and it really interests me working with the young players.

“The manager will obviously work with them both tactically and technically.

“But there will hopefully be occasions where a senior player like myself can make a difference by talking to them.”

I can't really see what David Wright adds to the team only experience. We seem to have enough midfield players to call upon and rather than waste money on a player in probably the last season of his career, I'd prefer we found a good left and right back that can actually play football.

There have been so many players released by clubs surely there are better options out there even on our small budget.

I wonder if David Wright is the right back that last night's paper suggested we were in 'advanced talks with'. He needs to either take what he is offered or go. He is not needed really, particularly as he runs the Ipswich Town Under 17s Academy! I cannot see how he can have such split loyalties and play for Colchester when he has a fairly senior coaching role at Ipswich.

Sounds to me like he is only interested in the coaching side of things, and will play another season if they have him as 'player coach'.

Not a bad player, just not as good as Kem was.
