Colchester United are in “advanced talks” with at least two potential new signings after stepping up their search to find a replacement for Brian Wilson.
U’s boss Joe Dunne is in the hunt for a new right-back, following Wilson’s decision to leave the club after rejecting a new contract offer.
Colchester have been strongly linked with a move for Crystal Palace’s versatile young defender Alex Wynter, who enjoyed a productive loan spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium at the end of this season.
But Dunne is also keen to bring a full-back to the club who already has plenty of game experience under his belt.
Dunne said: “We’re in an advanced situation with a couple of players at the moment for the right-back position.
“I expect talks to move on in the next couple of weeks.
“We need to try and recruit a little more experience in terms of games, not age.
“When I talk about experience, I’m talking about the game situation.
“We’ve got Tosin Olufemi and Michael O’Donoghue but they’re two young and inexperienced full-backs and they’re going to need a bit of help.”
