  • "I really hope we let Okuonghae go and play Wynter and Eastman instead. We stayed up because of dropping Okuonghae - he is League Two standard at best. Good at defending but has no technical qualities that benefit the team - his "get the ball and lump it" approach doesn't work and it's cost us countless results over the years. As much as I think he is a great character and a good captain candidate as well, he just doesn't work best for the attackers we try to employ on the field and in our squad.

We tried to do that one touch, pass and move routine at the start of the season that actually worked quite well - until we got found out and had no plan B - but every time Magnus got the ball (I don't know about anyone else but) I panicked! And it's no surprise the system didn't last long.

Wynter is the kind of centre back we want if we are going to be playing that style of attacking football."

Colchester United are hoping to close in on the signing of Alex Wynter this week.

The Crystal Palace youngster impressed during his recent loan spell with the U’s, helping them stave off the threat of relegation.

Wynter’s existing contract at Selhurst Park is due to expire and he is waiting to hear whether or not the Premier League side want to keep him beyond this summer.

Joe Dunne has already made contact with the defender’s representatives.

And now the U’s boss plans to speak to his Palace counterpart Tony Pulis about the possibility of Wynter returning to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Dunne said: “We’ve spoken to his representative at Palace and I’ll speak to Tony (Pulis) over the next couple of days.

“Alex is someone I’d like to bring to the club and everybody knows that.

“I hope that we’ll have some news on that in the next couple of days.”
