It will be interesting to see where Wilson ends up. I suspect it will be somewhere like Oldham or Rochdale. Everywhere has a bigger budget than us in league 1, after the chairman has hived off large amounts to keep the academy afloat. This club offers no real future for any player over the age of 23/24.
Silly boy !!! Yeovil are championship coming down to league 1. It has been announced that they have no transfer budget. Infact most of league 1 teams have no or a small transfer budget. The only teams that have a large budget are the teams with a large following. As usual the Chairman gets the blame for the shortcomings of the so-called fans that sit at home and moan and complain (i'm not going anymore because i have to pay for a burger or i'm not going any more because it nearly costs as much as a night out in the pub). What annoys me most is in the days gone by we took nearly 20,00 people to Wembley now it seems only 2500 - 3000 people want to support the team because the chairman doesn't do what they want him to do. What ever you think the game is all about money we can count ourselves lucky we have a chairman that can stop our team going into financial meltdown considering the monies coming through the turnstiles. It's no good moaning about not having a team when they have gone, so next season get off your bums and support their team. You never know we might even get higher crowds the Sarfend. I feel embarrassed knowing that they can afford higher wages than us and can afford to spend money on new players this is not down to Mr, Cowling it's down to bums on seats."

Brian Wilson has left Colchester United after rejecting a new contract offer with the club.

The 30-year-old defender, whose current deal is due to expire this summer, turned down the opportunity to stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

U's boss Joe Dunne wanted to keep his captain at Colchester for next season.

But he admitted he was not able to match what other clubs could offer Wilson financially.

Dunne said: “I tried to keep Brian.

“I understand it was a difficult situation in a financial market where there will be clubs able to pay more than we do.

“When that situation arises you have a decision to make when you have a young family and you’re from a different part of the country.

“I fully respect Brian and what he did for the club.

“He was my captain and we did try to keep him."

Wilson was signed by John Ward for Colchester in 2010, following his exit from Bristol City.

He made 163 league and cup appearances for the U's, scoring three times.

Colchester have also announced the departure of Jordan Sanderson and Shaun Phillips from the club.

Sanderson made two substitute appearances for the U's first team, while young keeper Phillips leaves having not played a senior game.
