  • "I always knew that Morrison would leave. It makes no sense have the top earner playing a bit part roll on the the pitch. I do wish more effort was made to keep him as staff. You could see that when he played he was on a different page to the other players. He has something to offer another team and will probably bag 15 goals for one of our rivals anytime soon.

Thanks for the efforts Clinton, shame you never fitted in."

Clinton Morrison insists he has no regrets about joining Colchester United, ahead of his summer exit from the club.

The experienced striker is set to make his farewell appearance for the U’s at Walsall tomorrow, after it was agreed he would leave by mutual consent.

Morrison’s contract is due to expire this summer and he will now seek pastures new, bringing down the curtain on his two-year spell with the U’s.

The 34-year-old has scored just four times for Colchester since joining them on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday, in 2012.

Morrison has struggled at times to hold down a regular starting-place but insists he has enjoyed his time at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He said: “I’ve got no regrets.

“I’ve enjoyed the two years I’ve had here and Colchester are a great club.

“It’s been brilliant and I’ll definitely look out for their results in the future.

“I’ll always look out for this club, because in my heart I’ve played for them."
