The fact that his team secured a point from their trip to Crewe Alexandra was a definite positive for Colchester United boss Joe Dunne.

While the U’s manager would have been happier with three, he was happy to take a single point from their 0-0 draw at Gresty Road as it kept them the right side of the line in the League One relegation fight.

While clear-cut chances were at a premium, both sides had chances to win the game, with U’s Freddie Sears going closest when hitting the post in the second half.

However, both had to be content with a stalemate as Colchester stayed one point above the drop zone with two games to play.

Dunne said: “I’m pleased because it was a really close game.

“We haven’t lost it, that’s for sure and we could have won it.

“Probably the only clear-cut chance was Freddie’s but there are a lot of positives to take from this going into the last two games.”

See tomorrow’s Gazette for a full match report, pictures and reaction to the U’s 0-0 draw at Crewe.

Why the hell did Vose not start? He was by far the best player on the pitch against Oldham, and he was only on the pitch for the last 20 mins in that game! Not only was he sub todsy against Crewe, but he didn't even get on. This is another example of how Joe Dunne simply doesn't know what he's doing.....terrible manager who has no idea. Dunne out.

Today just about means that we are now dependent upon other results going in our favour on Saturday and the final Saturday of the season. I am not at all convinced we are good enough. Unfortunately I did not attend the match today but despite picking up a draw, we are now being caught up by the teams behind us. From three points above the relegation zone to now only one point.

Let us hope we can get a result against Brentford on Saturday when we paint the town blue, which will be an extremely big ask against a team looking to celebrate their final away match of the season in style. I really hope that Joe Dunne proves my pessimism wrong. Up the U's!

Forget the positive talk Dunne. Instead of "We're going to have an aggressive mindset" or "The gloves are off", try some reverse physiology and the tell them "They're **** " and "You're only League Two standard" maybe that will work.

Actually some reverse physiology might be the thing that's needed - anything at this stage of proceedings!
Just one point above the zone and teetering precariously now. We got away with most results going in our favour today, but for these last two games we cannot rely on that!!

To be honest I think we have to rely on the teams around us performing even worse than ColU for the last two matches.

Whatever happens Joe Dunne is not the man and Cowling needs to act, that is if he cares about the club? And on the face of his continued silence and non action it would seem he wants rid! Will there be any takers?

Cowling is just using Dunne whilst it suits him to do so. Once we have the availability, if ever, to have better quality players, Dunne will be gone like a shot. Trouble is we keep playing Russian Roulette with at least 3 chambers loaded.

Super Waluigi, but that's the whole point, next season won't be any better. We have already been told by Dunne there will be no transfer budget. It will be more of the same, loan players plus youngsters. Several people I know have stopped going to matches because they have found it difficult to identify with the team because of too many short term loans - here today and gone tomorrow.

A sobering thought that it’s only the fluky 88th minute header by Andy Bond (now of Chester FC) at Gillingham on the opening day of the season that is keeping us out of the relegation zone! For it has been continuous relegation form since 4th August 2013, that’s before the season normally starts...

U’s form since 04/08/2013:-

18. Tranmere Rovers P 42 W 12 D 11 L 20 F 50 A 72 -20 47pts
19. Notts County P 43 W 14 D 04 L 25 F 60 A 74 -14 46pts
20. Crewe Alexandra P 43 W 12 D 10 L 21 F 49 A 76 -27 46pts

21. COLCHESTER UNITED P 43 W 10 D 14 L 19 F 47 A 60 -13 44pts
22. Carlisle United P 42 W 11 D 11 L 20 F 42 A 67 -25 44pts

24. Stevenage P 43 W 10 D 09 L 24 F 40 A 64 -24 39pts

That’s relegation form for 97.7% of the season under the execrable management of Joe Dunne! Moribund and in free-fall!

Baz, neither of us know if next season will be better or not. There is no point. I agree that the budget will be cut, and getting new players will be difficult, but I think we have shown enough promise to get better. Once Morrison, Duguid and Cousins are off the books, we will have enough wages for three players. And given that a youth goalie can provide back up, Duguid does not need replacing, that leaves all the wages on strikers and right backs.

I don't think it will work that way my friend, after all, Duguid will still be part of the backroom like he's been this season. If we are able to bring fresh faces in the odds are they will be inexperienced youngsters. A budget cut last year meant we couldn't even cover the left back position so how, with further budget cuts, you expect it to cover expensive strikers I fail to see. Even if we get in a former premier young striker there is no telling he will be a success. Just look at Eastmond and Watt this season who have both been huge disappointments for me.

Agreed that Easymond and Watt have been disappointing this season. For one reason or another. I don't think we will get an experienced striker or a young striker. But I do think Dunne will have a couple of quid to entice a couple of players that he likes. He done well with Vose and Dickson, so I trust him to get another 2 good ones.
