Drey's on the Wright track for U's

Essex County Standard: Back in the fold - Drey Wright came on as a second-half substitute at Peterborough for his first appearance for nearly seven months. Back in the fold - Drey Wright came on as a second-half substitute at Peterborough for his first appearance for nearly seven months.

Drey Wright handed Colchester United a boost after making his first senior appearance for nearly seven months following his return from knee surgery.

The U's winger played the final 22 minutes of their 2-0 defeat at promotion-chasing Peterborough United at London Road, on Wednesday night.

Wright's last appearance came in Colchester's 2-2 draw at Bradford City, last September after the 19-year-old underwent an operation on his knee.

U's boss Joe Dunne said: “I’m pleased Drey has got some minutes.

“It’s been a real battle for him this season and he’s still nowhere near where he needs to be.

“But the fact that we’ve got him some games is a positive."

What a real positive to see Drey back; showed some good touches as a late substitute at Posh. But shame on the (so called) U's fans that abused both Drey Wright and Sammy Szmodics (hero of the previous nights under 18 cup final) whilst they 'warmed up' on the touchline just because they were wearing U's tracksuits. Drey hasn't even played for seven months!

If one is going to moan about a lack of effort and passion (as is your prerogative if you buy a ticket) ; at least please ensure that you target the right culprits. But how can it ever be productive to do so during a game; and notably when such horrible malice is directed at two 18 year olds that have rarely featured this season? I am ashamed that I was even in the same stand as you .

As regards those that feel that ten games in 30 days is just like doing a routine weeks work behind a desk; do you have to wear shin-guards? As a former high level sportsman I can testify that at any age every knock; twist, pull and stretch starts to hurt like billy-o after a while and there is a limit to the number of an-inflammatory and pain killers that one can take in any period. But maybe that's what makes you all so grumpy? Please give our kids a break, and by that I mean ALL those under the age of 23 (which means almost the entire team).

....and if your dad caught you on the computer under the bed sheets after 20:00 he would probably confiscate it. Then what would you do for entertainment......?

Anyhow....David is his grandad (see I do have a sense of humour).
