FC CLACTON boss Glenn Eldridge has described tonight’s trip to basement boys Woodbridge Town as a “cup final”.

The Suffolk side are bottom of the Thurlow Nunn League premier division but celebrated a hugely-impressive 4-2 victory against promotion-chasing Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.

It moved them to within two points of second-from-bottom Wivenhoe Town, prior to last night’s match between the Dragons and Brantham Athletic.

And Clacton are also still firmly in the relegation dogfight, following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to CRC.

The Seasiders are fourth from bottom but only above the drop zone on goal difference.

“Tonight’s game is like a cup final for us,” said Eldridge.

“Other results went our way at the weekend, but Woodbridge will be buzzing, after beating Brightlingsea.

“They’ll be fired up and our boys will have to dig in.

“We’ve got games in hand but we can’t keep talking about them - we’ve got to get points on the board.”

Eldridge welcomes back Wayne Chapman, Aaron Condon and Mark Bailey, who were all unavailable on Saturday.

And he says he will not be afraid to make changes, following a poor performance against CRC.

“I’ll do whatever I have to do to keep us in this league and if that means making changes, I’ll make changes,” he said.

“Saturday was poor and deflating, after two positive results and performances.

“You’re always going to have a bad game here and there, but at this level, you’ve always got to have heart and desire.

“But we’ll go again and fortunately the games are coming thick and fast.”

Andy Taylor may be available for Clacton tonight.

The club’s former boss is returning as a player, to add experience and leadership for the run-in.
