Former U's forward Ken Plant dies

Former Colchester United centre-forward Ken Plant has died at the age of 88.

Plant, one of the U's finest goalscorers, scored an impressive 84 goals in 197 games for the U's.

He is 41st on Colchester's all-time appearance-makers list.

Plant finished as the U's leading goalscorer in the 1954/55, 1956/57 and 1957/58 seasons and hit five hat-tricks for the U's.

He is ninth on the U's all-time goalscorers list and only four players have scored more goals than Plant in Football League fixtures for Colchester United.

My boyhood hero,who wore the number 8 shirt and played inside right in those days. I called him the brylcreem man as he always had his hair well plastered . Like Nora mentions Ken and McCurley were a terrific partnership and those fond memories will never be forgotten.
