HEYBRIDGE Swifts missed a late penalty and were held to a draw at Redbridge.

The two sides battled to a 1-1 draw in their Ryman League division one north match.

Swifts took an early lead at the Oakside Stadium when Dumebi Dumaka grabbed the opener on 12 minutes.

Daniel Francis then went close for the home side but his glancing header went wide.

Ben Bradbury went down in the box but the home side’s penalty appeals were waived away by the referee on 19 minutes Kurt Smith tried to reduce the arrears for the home side but his long range effort flashed wide on 39 minutes.

But Smith did find the target two minutes later with a left-footed drive from the edge of the area.

Liam Thomas then almost gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half-time but his header from a corner went just wide.

Jamie Guy went close for Swifts just after the start of the second half.

Swifts almost went back in frotn when Wareham had a header cleared off the line following a corner on 53 minutes.

Redbridge looked to have taken the lead on 59 minutes but Stephen Good’s header was ruled out for off-side.

Heybridge had the chance to snatch victory when they were awarded a late penalty.

However, Robbie King’s effort was saved and Dean Driscoll was able to also prevent his follow up shot.
