Colchester United manager Joe Dunne hailed his “clinical” side after they beat Coventry City 2-1 this afternoon.
First-half goals from Freddie Sears and Gavin Massey gave the U’s their first victory in seven matches, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Colchester had only scored twice in their previous six matches, prior to their win over the Sky Blues.
Dunne said: “What we were today is clinical and when we got our chances, we took them.
“We had two or three other opportunities to score more.
“I’ve very pleased for everybody, for ourselves and the fans.
“It was a great win all round for the football club.
“It was a great start and we’d done a lot of work on this kind of play.
“Freddie took his goal exceptionally well and it was a good finish.
“Gavin has been scoring on his left foot a lot in training and he took his goal exceptionally well, too.
“It was a great pass into space and a wonderful finish and we had two or three other moments where we could have killed the game off and made it a lot more comfortable than it was.”
Callum Wilson's well-taken goal on the stroke of the interval gave Coventry hope and prompted Dunne to change his half-time team-talk.
“At half-time we put the first 45 minutes to bed, because when you concede a goal just before half-time like that then it can manifest," added Dunne.
“We shut the door on that and said if we draw or win the second half, we win the game."
