Essex University Amateur Boxing Club’s Dan Azeez is facing a sporting dilemma after being called up by Nigeria for trials ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games.
The talented 23-year-old has been asked to travel to the country later this month with a view to him competing at the international event, which begins in Glasgow in July.
However, Azeez knows that travelling to Africa is likely to prevent him from competing in the National Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) Championships.
He is likely to make a final decision after competing in the Essex category of the ABA competition, this weekend.
He said: “I’d love to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
“Outside of the Olympics, it’s the pinnacle of amateur boxing and I’ve been asked to travel out to Nigeria.
“But at the same time, I’m really focused on doing the ABAs here."
