Colchester United manager Joe Dunne admitted his side "stopped the rot" after ending a run of three straight defeats with a 0-0 draw against Rotherham United.

The U's battled to claim a point against the promotion-chasing Millers, following a tight contest at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Dunne said: “We’ve stopped the rot, if you like.

"I was very pleased with the performance.

“We had to nullify their threats and we went with a team so that we were able to get bodies behind the ball when needed and attackers to get forward.

“At the start it really looked like it was going to pay off and we had great movement but were just shy of the pass in the final third but I think we’ve fully deserved the point.

"In the games ahead for the rest of the season, I'm sure we'll score goals."

Colchester thought they had scored in the first half when Sanchez Watt had the ball in the net.

But the effort was chalked off by referee Brendan Malone after Clinton Morrison was adjudged to have fouled Millers goalkeeper Adam Collin.

"I think it was the correct decision," added Dunne.

"What we were concerned about was the period of time between the ball going in the net and the whistle going and he gave himself a period of time to think about it.

"I think overall, it got it right so no complaints."
