Marcus Bean says Colchester United’s players are chomping at the bit for some match action following their recent fixture disruption.

The U’s have been left kicking their heels after their last two League One games were called off because of waterlogged pitches.

Joe Dunne’s side have not played in League One since Bean scored in their 4-2 win at Carlisle United, on January 18.

It was the U’s second successive win and they have lost only one of their last six league fixtures.

However, Colchester will have gone three weeks without a competitive fixture by the time they host play-off chasing Rotherham United, this Saturday.

Bean said: “After our recent form, we just want to get back out there again.

“But on the other hand, it has given the likes of Gavin (Massey) to get back fit.

“He’ll be another attacking player to add and that boosts competition for places.

“It’s all about having a good, strong squad.

“You don’t want to rush people back and the gaffer has had the privilege of not having to do that.

“It has allowed them to recover better and when they do come back, they know they will have to do the business.”

Bean says having forward Sanchez Watt back available after injury has boosted everyone at the U's.

The former Arsenal youngster has scored three goals in his last two games for the U’s, after recovering from a long-term thigh problem.

“Sanchez is a bit of an enigma,” said Bean, who has started Colchester’s last six matches.

“You might not see much of him in the game at times.

“But when he does get on the ball, something always seems to happen.

“Any team needs players like Sanchez, especially at this level.

“He makes a massive difference and he showed that at Carlisle.”

So am I Marcus, it sees so long since the last home game that I've almost forgotten we're in he middle of the football season. These enforced breaks are not good for players or supporters alike!

Baz, I fear the Rotherham game is going to be in some doubt with the amount of rain expected between now and Saturday afternoon!
