Garbutt recalled from U's loan spell by Everton

Luke Garbutt has been recalled from his loan spell at Colchester United by Premier League side Everton.

The attacking left-back has been outstanding for the U's since joining them on loan from the Goodison Park club last September, making 20 appearances for Joe Dunne's side.

However, Bryan Oviedo's horrific injury in Everton's FA Cup win at Stevenage last weekend has prompted the Toffees to recall Garbutt, whose loan spell at Colchester had been due to end next month.

Garbutt could now go straight into the Everton squad for their Merseyside derby against Liverpool tonight.

Good luck Luke and thanks. However, it's a real bummer for us as he was the only player we had that could deliver quality crosses and free kicks into the box. I fear we are going to miss this ability.

Baz is right, this is actually a catastrophe for us, losing our best player. A good job we had Luke while we had him, we would be several points lower in the table. Sure we were going to lose him, but we all hoped he would be with us for a bit longer. Let's hope we have got enough points in the bag to cruise through to safety at the end of the season. We need about another 18 points from 20 games, which may not sound too much of a challenge, but willl require some hard graft, and the luck to avoid any more serious injuries. Let's start with 3 points from the Shrews.
.
And of course good luck to Luke Garbutt for his career, he is sure to become a regular fixture in the Premier League. It was a privilege to see him playing for us.

Garbutt’s recall is a massive setback for our hopes of maintaining mid-table obscurity rather than being sucked back into the relegation mix. Luke has been instrumental in the majority of our goals (and positive results) over the last few months, we will sorely miss him!

Congratulations to the lad for getting a well deserved chance to impress at Everton. Good luck Luke!

Congratulations Luke, we all knew that you were destined for better things. So much ability and work rate to match. You've done the U's proud. Good luck for the future. Well done to Joe Dunne also for again spotting these young stars and being able to bring them to the club

It's a waste if Luke is only going to be a bench warmer like he was tonight. Still maybe next game he will get a few minutes of Premier League action.

Thanks for the efforts Luke.

Let's hope Dickson can now prove his worth at left back and Watt/Massey can take over free kick duties.

Maybe just as well for Luke that he was kept on the bench, considering how his team werte thrashed. But you're right, he deserves to be in action in the Premier League. And he surely will be, soon.
