Colchester United manager Joe Dunne has hailed his team’s 3-0 win against Gillingham as the best of his managerial career.
Goals by Sanchez Watt, Clinton Morrison and Freddie Sears wrapped up a great win for the U’s that moved them up to 13th in League One.
A three-point haul was nothing less than they deserved after a great display of passing football – exactly the type that Dunne is trying to get them to play.
He said: “I’d say it was probably the best performance of my short managerial career.
“We had some good ones when I first took over, but that’s how we want to play.
“There was a key moment in the first half where we were passing the ball around at the back and there was a lot of encouragement.
“It was a key moment.
“We did it previously against Crewe and there was a bit of nervousness about the crowd.
“But everyone was really behind the team and I thought we were excellent from start to finish.
“It was a complete performance and we had players getting goals, like Sanchez (Watt) and Freddie (Sears) who have been missing for a while.
“Those are the options we have now and I’m delighted for Clinton Morrison to get his goal.
“It was a very good performance and I think their first shot on target only came late in the 80s in terms of minutes, so that’s great credit to the players.”
