Derby clash is an important game for Braintree
7:00am Saturday 11th January 2014 in Sport
BRAINTREE Rugby Club will travel for one of their key games of the season today looking to put an end to some poor form on the road so far.
The Black and Ambers will head to Chelmsford in London League division two north east with the form books suggesting a home victory may be on the cards They have lost every one of their six trips away from Robbs Wood in the league so far, but the Essex derby will give Braintree an opportunity to avenge Chelmsford’s 51-15 win in the reverse fixture in October.
Braintree are hoping that the availability problems that have dogged them during the first half of the season can be overcome as they know they need to pick up points on the road to prevent getting dragged down with the sides below them.
Chairman of selectors Jeff Lewis said: “It is an important game in terms of being a local derby, but then every game is important to us at the moment.
“We don’t seem to be capable of winning on the road and we need to change that if we are to stay alive in this division.
“It is proving to be a difficult season because we have struggled to have players available with too much consistency.
“We can’t afford to not win our home games and we have to start picking up some points away. When you lose even one or two significant players through the spine of the team, then it doesn’t help.”
