Essex County Standard: Garbutt extends his loan stay for another month Garbutt extends his loan stay for another month

LUKE Garbutt has extended his loan stay at Colchester United.

The Everton full-back has signed a month’s extension to his deal, keeping him in north Essex until February.

His original loan expired last weekend.

U’s boss Joe Dunne said: “It’s great that we have been able to extend Luke’s time here.

“He has shown his qualities in his time here, both defensively and when he attacks, and we were obviously keen to keep him longer.

“I’d like to thank Everton for allowing it to happen and I’d like to think we’ve given him valuable experience and development towards becoming a Premier League player for them.”

Garbutt has been with the U’s since September, making his debut in the away game at Bradford City.

The 20-year-old has made 18 appearances, scoring three goals.

Good news. Would have been great if it was for the rest of the season. Be intresting to see what happens with walker now?

Only a one month extension is disappointing unless further extensions are on the cards. Maybe, JD wants to use whatever is left in the budget for other signings, including Sam Walker? We really need Luke for the remainder of the season!.

Agree with both the above. It's good news, but a pity it's only for a month. Maybe JD can eke it out with extensions for another month, then another.... Luke Garbutt is clearly Premiership material, so maybe it is the player himself who is hoping to break through at his home club. Let's hope nobody at Everton gets injured, so that Luke stays longer with us. If he stays, we stay up.

We also have to be hopeful that Moyes doesn't go after Baines at Everton, because that would scupper any further attempts to sign Luke on loan in future months..
