U's beaten at home by lowly Crewe

Essex County Standard: U's beaten at home by lowly Crewe U's beaten at home by lowly Crewe

Colchester United suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of struggling Crewe Alexandra this afternoon.

The U's had looked like they were on their way to getting three points after Luke Garbutt's free-kick had deflected into the net, just before the half hour.

But two goals in the space of three minutes from Chuks Aneke and Tom Hitchcock saw Alex come from behind to claim three precious points and move off the bottom of the League One table.

Joke! What's the point, get messed about waiting for buses. Watch a team that turns up for first 30mins, and last 10 mins. A ref who either stupid or cheating. Crewe players do their best pantomime acting.
It's embarrassing and the two wins will be forgotten by the two dire games that sandwiched them. Good luck to guys travelling to mk

With the games we have comming up those six points will be so important. That result over stevenage shows just how bad stevenage were.vose needed to be replaced but it was the loss of ibere that done for us.crewe werent a bad side once they got a bit of confidence and trust u's to give em just the right amount.

We never learn anything from our wins and slip back into the same old same old.

As soon as we started knocking it about the back four and goalkeeper you could see which way this game was going.

Doing the John Ward trick and sitting on a one goal lead inviting pressure never worked for him so Joe should have learnt from that and told the players at half time to push on. Instead of that we reverted to our headless chicken performance and boot up field to see I come straight back.

Another very disappointing performance and a chance to put distance between us and the relegation scrap gone again.

I'm still not sure Joe Dunne is the right man to lead us forward.

Same old Col U, I think the club should give us season tickets holders half our money back. I won't be renewing next year. It'll be the first time I won't watch them in over 50 years.

Pathetic second half performance. We have now lost 16 of our last 28 home games and have lost more home games than won over the past two and a half seasons, so this cannot possibly be dismissed as a "bad day at the office" it has happened far too many times for that! The home results have been unacceptable over a long period of time, we drew too many at home under John Ward but under Joe Dunne these draws have turned into defeats, it's not like our away form is anything to shout about either so the players need to grow a pair or it will be relegation. Enough is enough.

Pathetic second half performance. That was the 16th defeat in 28 home matches, so this was far from being a blip or to be dismissed as a "bad day at the office". If people had that many bad days in their job they'd be sacked! We have lost more home games than won about a period of two and a half seasons, this cannot be considered acceptable. The poor home form under John Ward was mainly due to too many draws but under Joe Dunne these have turned into defeats. Enough is enough.

*.* Ten consecutive league defeats to the mighty Crewe Alexandra! Archetypal bogey team!

This match serves as a timely reality check to the ‘Happy Clappers’ who’ve been ramping two wins which were fortuitously gifted to us courtesy of comedy own goals and catastrophic keeper errors. It comes as no surprise that with no freebies on offer normal service resumes. Already we’ve been pulled back to within five points of the relegation zone and to my mind we’ve never left the relegation scrap which will once again go down to the wire (assuming we haven’t been relegated before the final day).

The U’s had the better of an underwhelming first half, without creating much in the way of chances, indeed we needed another large portion of good luck with a wicked deflection sending Luke Garbutt’s free kick into the net. Meanwhile Crewe exposed the fallibility of our defence on the break, which should’ve served notice as a warning for the second half.

Crewe simply wanted it more in the second half, while we simply didn’t bother to show up, and thoroughly deserved to maintain their 100% record at the Community Stadium. There were two let offs for the U’s with a mix up between Magnus and Walker leading to the ball being desperately hacked off the line, while the referee missed a blatant professional foul on Hitchcock and a red card for Wilson. Before Aneke smashed in the equalizer from close quarters and Hitchcock netted from a free header at a corner routine to complete the inevitable turnaround.

Although the U’s are in a marginally better position at the turn of the year than twelve months ago, the prospect of losing the services of impressive loan players Garbutt and Walker in the next couple of weeks could yet deliver a fatal blow to the U’s survival hopes in 2014.

There's too many lousy weak characters in our side I'm afraid and I can't see it ever changing until we bite the bullet and get rid of them. Generally speaking second half performances at the WHCS have been dire and they keep on recurring. Half these players should be put on the transfer list, but they know that the club can't afford to do it, However, there is a counter argument that says the club can't afford to not do it whilst attendances are on an ever decreasing trend. Normally after two confidence boosting wins like those against Oldham and Stevenage we should see the team moving forward to even better performances, but it just never happens with this lot. Sorry Joe old boy you have to kick **** and kick it hard. At the moment it seems they can play as they want and get away with it.

As things stand now, I will not be renewing my season ticket next season as enough is enough as far as I'm concerned. If the club can't be bothered to sort things out to achieve a "winning team" then I can't be bothered to go and watch them any longer. Under Cowling's tenure, it's just been an ever increasing downwards spiral season after season and at the moment I can only see it getting worse not better. This was a thoroughly disgraceful home performance yet again. Our performance was so bad we made a poor Crewe side look world beaters in the second half.

Yes it's all smiles and claps when we win, and boos and f offs when we loose. That's football that's life and I think it's right. When they do well praise them and let them know when they have a rubbish game. The problem is it happens to much over last couple of years, so many times we just don't seem to turn up! To many players just don't seem to care. Man to man we should have playoff team but the work rate is embarrassing. There needs to be some big changes as we continue to sleep since coming to cuckoo farm

Cant pretend I'm not disappointed, but I've been a Col u nut for donkeys years, I've learnt not get hysterical over football, just take the rough with the smooth, and don't have inflated expectations. Today Col U met a Crewe side who (like us) were desperate for the points, on balance Crewe had the edge in the 2nd half, and we lost the plot.. There are no easy games, all the lower clubs are desperate to avoid the dreaded drop. 'demotion' would be a disaster. 'Still' half the season to come, so I will reserve my judgement, and see what happens come May 2014.. MKD up next..'be there'..

Joe Dunne as a player never once gave a home performance like that, this second half dross is now regularly dished out by the players to the long suffering fans, I hope something changes soon while we still have some support!

On Boxing day it was Dr Jekyll, to-day it was Mr Hyde. It is so predictable. Why can't we have a run of consistent performances? We are not going to be relegated but we are certainly not going to finish in the the top 15. It is going to be a struggle right through to the final few games. The games against the weakest teams are the worst, for most of them will fight like tigers, as Crewe Alexandra did this afternoon.
If Luke Garbutt stays, we stay up, but if he goes, it is going to be a serious struggle.

I was there! The game was lacklustre, devoid of inspiration, motivation or ideas! On reflection, both the Oldham and Stevenage games were just a brief respite from what is ultimately going to be a fight to avoid relegation. Yes, I know many will say this is defeatist and pessimistic, but that is reality! Ask yourself where the goals are going to come from. With Jabo injured and off the pitch, we looked totally inept. Morrison is no replacement for him and really should be removed from the playing staff, although at the moment we have nobody else in the squad to fulfill the 'striker' role. I saw a family that arrived in the East stand, full of optimism and left despairing at how frail we looked and I heard the mother say that she would not want to come back here and watch this again in a hurry! What on earth is going on? Another gutless home performance and allegedly 'things are better than they were a year ago' according to Dunne. The statistics do not lie. Look at our home form. It is abysmal! With results as they have been, even despite the two wins, which were commendable, we are just a joke at home and sides set their stalls out with the intention of knowing that the sloppy play from the back will end up in us losing possession and allowing them to get a foothold in the game at some point. We do not have the quality of player to play that type of football and we get caught time and time again and yet Joe and Mark still play that way. It was obvious that the tactics had been changed for this game and it proved fatal, yet again! I agree with many others still and my mind is now made up - Mr Dunne, you have had long enough to sort out this debacle. Please resign. Up the U's!
