WIVENHOE Town gained the bragging rights thanks to a 1-0 victory in today’s Thurlow Nunn League derby at Stanway Rovers.
Marley Spindler scored the only goal of the game, to earn the relegation-threatened Dragons three precious points at The Hawthorns.
His strike came early in the second half and was an unstoppable, diagonal effort after the ball was pulled back by Dan Sakal.
Stanway’s best effort came shortly before the break and was a rising shot by Jimmy Webb, tipped over by stand-in goalkeeper Liam Playford.
Substitute Marlon North then drilled a late effort just wide of the left-hand post.
Wivenhoe nearly doubled their lead when Joe Heron burst clear but his effort was blocked by Rovers keeper Dan Heath.
The match went ahead after an 11am pitch inspection.
