Dunne praises U's after "wonderful win"

Essex County Standard: Dunne praises U's after "wonderful win" Dunne praises U's after "wonderful win"

Joe Dunne said he was proud of his Colchester United players after they recorded a fine 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic.

The U's bounced back from their 4-0 home mauling at the hands of Notts County with a deserved victory at Boundary Park, to register their first away win since the opening day of the season.

An own goal from Ellis Plummer and Jabo Ibehre's fifth goal of the season secured Colchester all three points, enabling them to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Dunne said: "I'm immensely proud and I thought it was a wonderful win.

“It was a response from the players and they had to do it for themselves and give those travelling fans something to shout about.

“It’s a big contrast from what happened against Notts County but that happens sometimes in football.

"We wanted to do it for ourselves and the fans today and I'm immensely proud.

"It gives us a leg up going into a busy fixture programme.

"I thought we were outstanding in the first half especially and we set our stall out straight away.

"All credit to the players."

Well done U's. A much needed win in what could have been a very tricky fixture against a decent Oldham team.

A little extra experience and some vital players back in (Wilson, Wright and, dare I say, Bean) and look what a difference it makes.

There was a lot of justified, if not overboard, criticism last week. Let's hope this result draws a similar number of responses in praise of a positive result.

An Oldham win would have put some daylight between both sides, as it worked out we leapfrogged them. 4pts plus from the next two fixtures and we'll be mid table by new year. and keep the two we're playing comfortably beneath us. i think we'd all take that.

A tentative "bring on boxing day" from me and a Merry Christmas to all,
