Lloyd makes first-round exit at World Grand Prix
Colchester's Colin Lloyd was beaten in the opening round of the World Grand Prix, in Dublin.
The 40-year-old, nicknamed Jaws, had been hoping to make progress in the tournament, which he won in 2004 and was a finalist in the following year.
However, Lloyd fell at the first hurdle after losing 2-0 to Ronnie Baxter in the first match of the double-start competition, at the Citywest Hotel.
Baxter’s straight sets win over Lloyd was his first win at the World Grand Prix since 2006 and the Blackpool darts ace now meets Simon Whitlock in the second round.
Baxter said: “I’m delighted that I’m through.
“It’s a long time since I’ve won here in Dublin so it’s great for me and though my average wasn't brilliant, it’s good to get a ‘dirty’ win sometimes.
“I was hitting the treble pretty well and a win like that sets me up for the rest of the week now."
