Cousins added to U's injury list
Colchester United’s injury problems have increased after goalkeeper Mark Cousins suffered a foot injury in their friendly defeat against Crystal Palace last night.
The U’s shot-stopper was injured after challenging Palace attacker Jimmy Kebe to the ball just before half-time, during his side’s 5-2 reverse against the Eagles.
Cousins, who has been deputy to first-choice keeper Sam Walker for Colchester this season, was replaced by young keeper Shaun Phillips at the break as a result of the injury.
He is now a big doubt for the U’s trip to play Bristol City on Saturday and has been added to an injury list which already includes the likes of Gavin Massey, Sanchez Watt and Tom Eastman.
In addition, young right-back Mason Spence also suffered a leg injury during the second half of the Palace game and had to be withdrawn.
U’s reserve-team boss Richard Hall said: “Mark suffered a gash to his foot.
“He’s had to have a stitch in it and unfortunately, it’s another injury headache for the gaffer.
“We don’t know the full extent of Mason’s injury yet.
“He’s had ice on it so we will assess it this morning.”
