Chapman finishes ahead of the field

GRANT Chapman was triumphant in Playgolf Colchester’s two clubs and a putter competition.
Chapman scored 34 points including five pars and two birdies, which came on the par-five ninth and par-three 16th. William Elder finished runner-up two points back on 32 points. In third place was Stephen Marr on 31 points.
Playgolf Colchester members also took part in the September medal.
It saw a return to form for Flo Lynch, who won in division one by a shot with a gross 77. His nett round of 66 included 11 pars and a birdie on the 17th hole.
Ben Cosgrove and Steve Johnson both carded scores of nett 67 and they had to be separated on countback. Cosgrove recorded the better back nine score to take second spot and was unlucky not to have won. He recorded the lowest gross in the division with a card of 74, including nine pars and three birdies.
Steve Johnson carded ten pars and two birdies, as part of his gross 75.
Dave Defreitas returned to competition golf to win in division two with the division’s lowest gross of 82 (nett 65). His card included a birdie start and six further pars.
Mark Dean was in second place with a nett 68, which was made up of six pars and two birdies.
In third place was Paul Marsh with four pars and back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14.
Howard Banham won in division three with the division’s lowest gross when he carded a gross 88 (nett 64).
He finished ahead of Dave Stubbins, who was three shots back on nett 67 in second place.
Ryan Brown finished in third with a one under handicap showing of nett 69.

Playgolf Colchester won the Newton Green Ladies Open for the third year running.
Twelve players from the club formed three teams of four at the event, where the Cha Cha Cha format seemed to suit them.
Playgolf Colchester’s team of Gina Macmillan, Nicky Withycombe, Rose Cole and Sue Patrick returned an outstanding score of 109 points, a massive 13 nett under par.
Tyler Garrett won Playgolf Colchester’s latest junior section roll up with 35 points.
He finished a point ahead of Jack Blackman (34 points), with Jack Potter finishing third.
