Heybridge Swifts go into the unknown
9:00am Saturday 7th September 2013 in Sport
HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS manager Mark Hawkes feels his side are stepping into the unknown when they head to Cheshunt.
Cheshunt have been struggling so far this season, only gaining four points from their opening six games and parting company with boss Tony Faulkener.
Player/assistant manager Omer Riza, who only recently joined, was appointed caretaker boss ahead of their FA Cup defeat at Spartan South Midlands League premier division Hertford Town lat Saturday.
And Hawkes says it is hard to know what to expect from today’s hosts. “Cheshunt is never an easy place to go,” he said.
“But we don’t know what to expect now, with their manager departing and a caretaker in charge.
“You don’t know if they will be able to attract new players, if they think they are going to play for a caretaker who may not be there in two weeks.
“But Riza will want to impress to try and stake a claim for the job.
“And their players may well raise their games to try and figure in his plans.”
Hawkes wants his side to maintain their concentration ahead of the encounter so they maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
He said: “It’s down to our players to keep putting in strong performances.
“It’s all about how we approach the game and our work-rate, if we want to get the win.”
Elsewhere in Ryman One North, MALDON & TIPTREE have a home date with Waltham Forest while WITHAM TOWN go to Chatham.
